My Great Mother

My Mother so gentle and caring

Oh! She is the goddess of love!

I find so many tough paths

Ah! There she comes

Like a Fairy Godmother and clears them all

She is the one who cradled me

From the very first breath of mine

She reads a book to me

When I’m tired and sleepy

She affectionately kissed me

When I was crying full of despair

Strongly shielding me from all evil and greed

That’s the glowing spirit my Mother has got

I owe my gratitude to her! The great Mother of mine!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s

Marvellous Marine Life

Stretching beyond the horizon

Gleaming like gold in the sun

The fantastic treasure in blues

The vast expanse of the ocean

Ruled by the mythical mermaids

A kingdom of sea creatures

Lurking below the surface

Octopuses, seahorses and many more

Fishes in various shades, tall and stout

Some harmless, others packed with poison

Deadly snakes slithering around

Pretty corals buried in the sea bed

Behold the mighty, terrifying sharks

And the giant whale so calm

Look at the dolphins so cute

And the amoeba as still as a statue

Submerged mountains and foaming volcanoes

A wealth of mystery in the Bermuda depths

Human treasures from sunken ships

The ocean an enigma, yet to be unraveled

From My Railway Carriage

Huffle and chug to a stop

As soon as the station arrives

Out of the window I see

A live canvas so enchanting!

Noisier than markets

An array of smells assaulting the senses

As crowded as banquets

Here! The train comes!

Buzzing like bees all over the station

Porters juggling luggage’s, guard waving flag

Vendors hawking products, parents clasping children’s hands

All for a few minutes and then the train chugs away.

The Mango Tree

Once a very young boy

Talked to a mango tree

Glad to hear the boy speak

It gave him a mango free.

Oh! So happy did he feel

That he could hardly thank the tree

How he danced and sang in joy

As he rejoiced in his good fortune

He grew up to be a fine, young lad

He went and spoke to the tree

How he wanted to own a home

His gift was the branches of the tree.

Happy to help his dearest friend

The tree gifted all its branches

Even ugly as it looked with its stump

A radiant smile lit its friendly face.

The Tiger’s Hunt

Tenth Poem from Sahana – Please Read, Comment and Share.

I look from the bushes

With my eyes wide open

Not even a single time I blink

While watching for my prey.

Ah! There comes a juicy deer

Guiding a small herd

There sits a fleshy deer

Unable to move its legs.

Now I jump out and catch young deer

Ready to scratch her with my sharp claws

But then I run away seeing Mr. Lion’s pride

I run as fast as I can, leaving my prey behind.

Ceebros Carnival

Bubbling excitement all over

Festive mood shared by all

Men and women of all ages

People wearing colorful dresses.

Huge number of people rushing about

To buy alluring dresses, earing’s and handicrafts

To play wonderful games like Twister, Nerf and water ball

Kids ready to devour cakes and pastas.

I see a big man with a small moustache

Wearing a green kurta and white veshti

He keeps announcing all good events

Using his mike he now announces a poetry competition.

I am so lucky for it’s my talent

Speaking of poetry makes me fly in the sky

And I took my book and wrote a jolly poem

And this is the poem. I take a deep breath and recite!

A Wonderful World

There was a wonderful world

Not much far in space

Kids were always lured

By the wonders of this place

Fountains flooded with chocolate

Jelly beans floating in hundreds

Grabbing a fork and plate

Children devour them in hundreds

Skies of cotton candies

Gleaming in shades of pink

Pouring a rain of toffees

Making the surprised people blink

All these wonderful things

You’d be lucky to see

If you to this land, fortune brings

Don’t be too shy to eat.

POEM BY SAHANA

Women’s Day

The day glows on the calendar

It’s March 8th, indeed a special day

The reason I state for you to know

It is women’s day – a thanks giving day

Half of the human race

The woman – a pillar of society

Master juggler of diverse roles

A rope that binds a happy family

One or ninety, age no bar

A friend, sister, wife and mother

So pure and true and ever so strong

Great sacrifices all for a single smile

Her contributions of every day

Celebrated on this special day

Our salutations to women

On women’s day – our thanks giving day

Holi

A vivid palette of colours

A live canvas painting

A musicale of laughter

On the full moon day of spring

Brown dogs in rainbow hues

Grass splattered with shades of blue

The air filled with coloured dust

As we enjoy the festival of colours

Morning runs away evening arrives

Children return with joy in their eyes

The aroma of sweets tickling the noses

Warm wishes flooding our hearts

In the cocoon of family and friends

The aura of well-being descends

Happiness fills in every cell of our being

All good things come to an end; Only to begin again!

The Great Mother Nature

Once a big foolish man

Went across a lake

On the boat he wondered!!!

Have nature I CONQUERED?

Said the lake to the man

We are brothers you and I….

Said the tree to the man

Fruits and rain are my gifts to you.

Said the earth to the man

We are brothers you and I

Protect Mother Nature and

She’ll tell you what to do.

Wisely said the man to all

We are brothers you and I

TRULY WE SHALL LOVE EACH OTHER

The family of great Mother Nature.

Rocking Hands

Come let’s explore the world of hands

The hands that help us feel the world

The hands that help us crawl in and out

Holding the wall, supporting us as we walk

The hands that know to ask for help

The hands that know to lend their help

The hands that clap together in happiness

The hands that join together in prayer

The hands that discreetly wipe our tears

The hands that clutch our stomach as we laugh

The hands that craft great sculptures

The hands that fly to create melodious music

The hands that help to caution the world

The hands that help us to change the world

Let’s salute them, these hands of ours

The hands that drive us to drive the world!

Best Friend

On a sunny day in June

In our school a wonder happened

In our western music class

Came a surprise just for us.

There came a lovely girl

With black and wavy hair

Her cheeks so brightly pink

And her face so shining bright.

Days had passed by

And in a pleasant day in March

I started to write my ‘Mouse and Blouse’

And there she came along.

Pleading with me to join her

In the club of writing poems

There was sown the seeds of friendship

And our joint career began.

Fantastic Flowers

Flowers are a treat to our senses

In a wide spectrum of colors

They emit sweet fragrance

And contain tasty nectar

Flowers are great teachers

Flowers teach us good values

Punctual to the very core

On time they bloom and glow

Even rising among dirty water

Lotus teaches us how to be pure

Blooming once in twelve years

The kurinji teaches patience.

With unwavered attention to the sun

The sunflower demonstrates focus

Let us learn from nature

To be the blossoming flowers of the future.

Mom and Nicholas

“My son so strong, my son so brave”

Says the mother proudly to her husband

“Lovely, handsome and smart, he’s the God of Gods!

Here comes our son Nicholas!”

Next day at the house started the great battle

Mother and son so furious that they broke all the walls

There go the chairs and tables, up and down the house

Mother and Nicholas so furious that they broke all my dolls!

Father and I so curious to dig the reason of this war

We stood like a wall between Nicholas and mother

And stopped the war in the middle separating the two battlers

To our surprise this war had started for a silly fruit.

The day ended on a bitter note, mom and Nicholas sleeping apart

And next day when we woke up they were not there in their cots

What a shock we got when we saw them in the garden, playing shuttlecock

Strange mom and Nicholas! What are they up to next?
